“Sometimes, it is the one who stands apart from the world who sees its deepest truths.”
The person who has never quite belonged has a particular gift: they see the group from the outside. They notice what the insiders take for granted. They see the assumptions, the unspoken rules, the things that are never questioned because everyone inside the group shares them.
This outsider perspective is not comfortable. But it is valuable. The person who has always belonged everywhere often sees nothing clearly, because they have never had to look.
If you have spent your life feeling like an outsider, you have been developing a capacity for observation and critical thinking that the insiders do not have. That capacity is not a consolation prize. It is a genuine gift.
The question is what you do with it.
