Grief has its own calendar. The anniversary of a death. The birthday of the person who is gone. The holiday that will never be the same. The date you met, the date you parted.

These dates arrive with a weight that can surprise you, even years later. You think you have moved on, and then the calendar turns to a particular day and the grief is fresh again.

This is not regression. This is the nature of love. The dates matter because the person mattered. The grief that returns on anniversaries is not a sign that you have failed to heal — it is a sign that you have not forgotten.

You do not have to be okay on these days. You are allowed to feel what the day carries.
