“When the wound opens, let it; it is the place where the light enters and transforms grief into grace.”
There is a moment — you cannot plan for it, you cannot force it — when grief shifts. It does not end. It does not disappear. But something in its quality changes.
The weight is still there, but it is no longer crushing. The sadness is still present, but it is no longer the only thing. You notice, perhaps for the first time in a long time, that you are also hungry, or curious, or amused by something.
This moment is not a betrayal of the person you lost. It is not a sign that you have forgotten them or that they mattered less than you thought.
It is the first sign that you are going to survive this. That life, which felt impossible for a while, is beginning to feel possible again.
Let it.
