“Ignorance is not the absence of knowledge, but the beginning of wonder's endless journey.”
We are taught that knowing who we are is the goal. That identity is something to be established, clarified, and then maintained. That uncertainty about who we are is a problem to be solved.
But there is a freedom in not knowing. In holding your identity lightly. In being willing to be surprised by yourself. In remaining open to the possibility that you are more than the story you have been telling about yourself.
The person who is certain about who they are is often the person who has stopped growing. The person who is uncertain is often the person who is still becoming.
Not knowing who you are is not a failure. It is the beginning of genuine inquiry. And genuine inquiry is the beginning of a life that is actually lived.
