We speak of love as though it were a feeling that either exists or does not. But the deepest love is not primarily a feeling — it is a practice. It is the daily choice to show up, to pay attention, to prioritize.

Devotion is love made concrete. It is the cup of tea made without being asked. The question asked with genuine curiosity. The presence offered without distraction. The willingness to stay when staying is difficult.

Feelings of love fluctuate. They are affected by sleep, by stress, by the ordinary friction of two lives lived together. But devotion can be steady even when the feeling is not.

The couples who last are not the ones who always feel in love. They are the ones who keep choosing love even when the feeling has temporarily retreated.
