“Do not measure love in the weight of your demands, but in the lightness of your heart.”
Some relationships are not balanced. One person gives more than they receive. One person's needs consistently take precedence. One person is always the one who reaches out, who accommodates, who adjusts.
This imbalance is not always malicious. Sometimes it is structural — one person is going through a difficult period and needs more. Sometimes it is habitual — the pattern was established early and has never been examined.
But when the imbalance is chronic, when it is the defining feature of the relationship rather than a temporary phase, it becomes a problem. Not because giving is wrong, but because a relationship that only takes from one person eventually depletes them.
You are allowed to notice when a relationship is asking too much. You are allowed to say so.
