The most vital companionship you'll ever embrace is the one you nurture within; for when you are whole alone, the world meets you completely.

The most important relationship in your life is the one you have with yourself. Not because you are the most important person, but because every other relationship is filtered through it.

The way you talk to yourself when you make a mistake. The way you treat yourself when you are struggling. The standards you hold yourself to. The compassion — or its absence — that you extend to your own humanity.

These internal patterns are not private. They leak into every relationship you have. The person who is harsh with themselves tends to be harsh with others. The person who cannot forgive themselves tends to struggle to forgive others. The person who does not trust themselves tends to struggle to trust others.

The work of improving your relationships often begins not with the other person but with yourself.
