“In the silence between words, the heart finds its deepest song.”
The most important part of a conversation is often not the words. It is the silence between them.
The pause before answering that shows you are actually thinking. The quiet that follows a difficult disclosure, in which the other person feels the weight of what they have shared being received. The moment of stillness before speaking that separates reaction from response.
We are afraid of silence in conversation. We rush to fill it. We interpret it as awkwardness, as disapproval, as the absence of connection. But silence in conversation is often the presence of something deeper than words can carry.
The person who can be silent with you — who does not need to fill every moment with noise — is offering you something rare: the space to be heard.
