When you change, the people around you do not always celebrate it. Sometimes they resist it. Sometimes they try to pull you back to who you were — not out of malice, but because your change disrupts the system they have built around the old version of you.
The family that needs you to stay small. The friends who are comfortable with your limitations. The partner who fell in love with the person you are leaving behind.
This resistance is painful. It can make you doubt your transformation, wonder if you are being selfish, question whether the change is worth the disruption.
It is. The people who love you for who you are becoming will find you. The people who can only love the old version of you are loving a version of you that no longer exists.
