In the garden of your heart, plant trust, for it will bloom even when disappointment casts its shadow.

The deepest trust is not the trust that has never been tested. It is the trust that has been tested, has been disappointed, and has chosen to remain open anyway.

This is not the same as ignoring the disappointment. It is not pretending the hurt did not happen. It is the conscious choice, made with full knowledge of the risk, to remain in relationship — with a person, with life, with the possibility of good things.

This trust is not naive. It is earned. It has been through the fire and has come out the other side still willing to try.

If you have been disappointed and have chosen to trust again, you are not foolish. You are practicing one of the most difficult and most necessary forms of human courage.
